Many parts of the world charges customers if they need plastic bags for their grocery's. It's a law. I think this is great idea and NYC should catch on this as well. Charge a minimal fee of a few cents for each bag. This will motivate customers to bring their own bags for reuse and perhaps have a cleaner city. The money made from the bags could go toward further cleanup of the city.
What do you think? There are a few cities in the US already doing this.

NYC tried to do this, to be more green, but instead they decided to reward those who bring their own bags, or if you recycle your plastic bags you get like 5 cents a bag or something. Capitalism at its best... lol

I think I should be allowed to bring my book bag to supermarkets and just stuff the things I'm going to purchase in it. And by purchase I mean walk out of the store without ever going to the register.

LOL When we didnt have a car, before I found out about home delivery, I hopped on the bus in Hackensack, took my biggest suitcase. Bought mad food cuz we had no food in the house, dragged the heavy ass suitcase and backpack on the bus and rolled it back home :rofl
Luckily we lived on the 1st floor :)

This is already being practiced in NJ and NYC. Idk if it's law though. I do know, that every time I go to the supermarket, they give me like a .10-.20 cent discount for bringing my own bags.

They give a discount but it's not a itemized added on price if you do not bring in your own bag. If people actually saw .25cents added onto their receipt, it might get to them.

We have this in Toronto....it works for the most part!! I always bring my own bags and I hate when I go to places they put like 2 things in one bag...fill it for crying out loud instead of wasting bags!
